NASA Research Experience

With a crew-led lunar mission on the horizon, thorough training becomes paramount even before departure from Earth. While NASA employs VR training simulations, newcomers face challenges due to the initial complexity of using VR technology.

We are building a virtual reality game to train to familiarize astronauts with VR mechanics and nuances to improve comprehension of NASA training for future missions to the moon. 

This research is supported by a grant from Kansas NASA EPSCoR. The development and team activities take place at the Open XR Lab. These experiences are spearheaded by Maggie Schoonover and Kristyn Waits from the College of Innovation and Design.
