Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences

Medical laboratory scientists play an important role in the healthcare system, providing diagnostic services to determine appropriate treatment options for patients. The MLS program at Wichita State prepares graduates to service all departments of a clinical laboratory.

Our students have full access to labs and facilities, working with their peers and gaining hands-on experience analyzing specimens. The program offers outstanding community support, experience during clinical rotation, above-national-average certification scores and flexible applicant entry points. Graduates may further their education to become specialists in Clinical Microbiology, Clinical Hematology, Clinical Chemistry or Blood Bank.

Medical Laboratory Sciences upgrades labs with state-of-the-art microscopes

The Department of Medical Laboratory Sciences continues to revolutionize its classrooms and labs with brand new, state-of-the-art microscopes. The new microscopes are a major upgrade, replacing dozens of older units with new equipment as part of a strategic investment to ensure students train on the current tools they will use in clinical practice and biomedical research. The investment comes as the program prepares to relocate to the Wichita Biomedical Campus in the heart of downtown Wichita.
