Details: Over the past several years, Prevention Services has developed a student ambassador program for the Prevention Services Advisory Board (PSAB), which is a multidisciplinary board with members from across campus focusing on wellness promotion and the prevention of sexual violence, suicide and substance abuse in our campus community. The purpose of the ambassador program is to provide an opportunity for Wichita State University students to develop leadership, community outreach, and human services skills, while also serving as change agents in promoting health and wellness awareness in the WSU community. Our ambassadors are dedicated to decreasing myths about mental health and empowering other students to make healthy life changes.
Starting this Fall semester, the goal is to expand this program where each college and registered student organization will have at least one prevention ambassador. Their aim will be to contribute their expertise by tailoring outreach material unique to their college or student group. This student will be able to create events, provide information via tabling, and give presentations on topics they feel are relevant to fellow students. This initiative supports SEM objective 3.9 to Foster a culture of wellness and belonging across the University that contributes to optimal academic performance.
