Training: How to Verify Like a Pro

These steps mirror Instagram/TikTok/X workflows. You’ll practice them in the simulation.

1) Triangulate Sources

  • Check two independent sources (e.g., wire service + local outlet). Agreement on specifics matters.

2) Time Check

  • Instagram/TikTok: open the post → view the timestamp; X: click the timestamp under the handle.
  • Spot recycled content by comparing weather, clothing, signage, and device UI to the stated date.

3) Place Check

  • Look for landmarks, street signs, transit boards, storefronts; cross‑check with maps/cams.

4) Reverse‑Image/Video Search

  • Desktop: right‑click → “Search image with …” or use images.google.com (camera icon).
  • Mobile: long‑press the image or share to Lens/Images. For video, screenshot a clear frame and search that still.

5) Primary Documents

  • Open the source text (executive order, agency FAQ, NWS forecast) and read effective dates/definitions.
  • Pair with one neutral plain‑language explainer.

6) Don’t Amplify Unverified Claims

  • If you don’t have time to verify, don’t share screenshots or hot takes.
