Strengths-Based Development

"Focusing on your strengths is one of the best ways to develop your abilities and achieve your goals." - Bailey Nelson

Wichita State has collaborated with Gallup to provide all students, faculty and staff the ability to learn their CliftonStrengths® and use them to maximize their potential in academia, everyday life, and in their career aspirations. Our initiative utilizes Gallups Strengths-Based approach that focuses on talents, strengths, abilities, knowledge and capacities rather than deficits, or things that are lacking to promote confidence, skill development, and student success.

Student Development and Experience

"Students succeed when they feel cared for as people; included; encouraged to pursue their hopes and dreams; and empowered to leverage their unique CliftonStrengths®about how to thrive in school and life in and out of the classroom. Gallup's student experience research suggests that strengths-based advising and development help education leaders identify and scale the high-impact experiences within their culture and context that will transform student outcomes." - Gallup

Groups, Teams and Organizations

A strengths-based team is a group of imperfect but talented contributors whom others value for their strengths and who need one another to realize individual and team excellence.

The common language of CliftonStrengths gives team members a shortcut for knowing and trusting one another. Communicating using strengths fosters productive, ongoing conversations about the talents people bring to certain situations. It’s a language that bridges cultural and organizational demographics, giving team members a shared way to describe why they’re unique and how it benefits the team.

Members of a strengths-based team know each other’s talent filters. They understand how each person likely thinks, acts and feels. This awareness helps the team build effective partnerships and navigate the issues that all teams encounter.

  • Learn your individual talents and strengths, with corresponding insights, applications, and action items
  • Develop your leadership capacity
  • Gain self-awareness and self-understanding
  • Examine a strengths-based perspective and its applications
