School of Computing Undergraduate Advising

We make the following distinction among advisors:

  • Academic advisors (mostly academic success, curriculum and scheduling advising for sophomores, and problem solving for all undergraduates). Appointments with academic advisors must be scheduled by:
    - visiting our main office in Jabara Hall 249  OR
    - calling our main office at: (316) 978-3156  OR
    - clicking on the Navigate 360 link of our academic success advisor as listed below.
School of Computing (SoC) academic advisor is listed at the bottom of this page.
  • Faculty advisors (primarily: career, Engineering+, and some curriculum advising for juniors and seniors). Most faculty prefer that students meet them during their office hours.

If students are unsure whom to see, they should call (316) 978-3156 or visit the department office (JB 249).

The SoC undergraduate advising structure is multi-tiered and in general it is based on student academic progression. (When determining student status, we consider the credit hours completed towards the degree, not the total credit hours taken at WSU.)  In general, we distinguish between:

  • Freshman students are advised by OneStop Student Services. (In some rare cases, freshman students may wish to see the SoC academic success advisor; such students should visit or call our main office at: (316) 978-3156.)
  • All new transfer students (regardless of classification), and student transitioning from OneStop will see our Academic Success Advisor.
  • Sophomores must schedule meetings with both our Academic Advisor and a Faculty Advisor every other semester, totaling once a year. It's essential for sophomores to consult with an advisor each semester to facilitate course registration. To arrange an appointment with either the Academic Success team or an academic advisor, students can either visit our main office or contact us at (316) 978-3156.
  • Juniors and Seniors (who have not taken CS 598  - Senior Design I yet) are required to meet their assigned Faculty Advisor once a year. (We assign faculty advisors after students complete 60 credit hours towards their degree.)  Your Faculty Advisor will be listed under the myWSU myClasses tab (towards the middle of the page), and you can find their email link in your Degree Works page on the top right hand corner. Most faculty prefer that you meet them during their office hours .  The main office does not schedule faculty advisor appointments.
If students have the need to see an academic advisor they should visit or call our main office at: (316) 978-3156, or schedule themselves an appointment through Navigate 360.
  • Seniors enrolled in Senior Design-I (i.e., CS 598) must complete a senior check by meeting one of our senior check coordinators (for contact information please see the bottom of this page).
