• Establishment: Wichita State University (WSU) was established as a state educational institution of the state of Kansas in 1964.  K.S.A. 76-711, K.S.A. 76-3a01.
  • Governance and Control: WSU is a separate state agency and is controlled by, operated, and managed under the supervision of the Kansas Board of Regents. K.S.A. 76-712; K.S.A. 76-3a09; Kan. Const. art. 6, § 2(b); Letter from KBOR.   
  • Contractual Authority: WSU is authorized by the Kansas legislature to enter into contracts related to the operation or function of the university. K.S.A. 76-721.  
  • Not for Profit: As a public university, WSU does not operate for profit.
