Wichita State is helping ease the financial burden for Kansas families
As Wichita State University continues to grow, need-based aid is vital to ensuring higher education is affordable and accessible to Kansas families. Kansas currently ranks as one of the lowest in the Midwest for awarding financial aid to families in need, but Wichita State has made it a priority to remedy that.
In fact, our efforts around access and affordability are one of the reasons we’re growing as an institution and celebrating record-setting enrollments. We’re bringing in new populations to college, and we’re helping to ease the financial burden of higher education for families in our state.
Why is need-based aid so important to Wichita State? Simply put, there’s no greater mandate for an urban public research university than to create access and affordability for everyone in the communities we serve. It’s our responsibility to open doors and help pay for college for those who are driven to learn, grow and succeed at Wichita State University.
We’re growing our Shocker Promise program to include all of Sedgwick County. This is a last-dollar-in scholarship to cover any remaining gaps students may have for tuition and fees for those with exceptional need.
To further this initiative, we’re working with our legislators and donors to expand the Shocker Promise to all low-income residents of Kansas. It’s our hope that we can partner with the state to achieve this goal, which will grow the workforce for Kansas companies, attract talent to Wichita, and make a WSU education an affordable option for all families in our state.
