Wichita State University Director of Athletics Darron Boatright’s contract has been renewed through June 2022.
Acting President Richard Muma said today: “Darron has done an excellent job since taking over the department in April 2015. He was instrumental in WSU’s move into the American Athletic Conference, the apparel deal with Under Armour and fundraising support for improving campus facilities. Most importantly to President Bardo and me, our students have thrived athletically, and academically, under Darron’s leadership.”
As Director of Athletics, Boatright has overall supervision and leadership of the intercollegiate athletics program, budget, personnel, compliance with conference and NCAA rules and regulations, fundraising and other duties as assigned by the President. He reports to the President and serves as a member of his Executive Team.
In the past four years, Wichita State has captured 22 conference championships, 17 NCAA Tournament appearances and three conference all-sport trophies.
Under Boatright, student athletes had at least a 3.1 cumulative grade point average every semester, including a school record 3.256 cumulative GPA during the Fall 2018 semester.
“I’m honored that the University believes in what we are accomplishing in the athletic department and how we are developing our student-athletes,” Boatright said. “I’m looking forward to continue working closely with our coaches and staff while improving the experience of our student-athletes, both at the university and in the community.”
Before joining Wichita State in 2010, Boatright was a member of the athletics staffs at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, Murray State University and the University of Alabama.
Boatright earned a bachelor's degree from Murray State, graduating with a double major in political science and history. He earned a master's degree in Higher Education Administration at Alabama.
