The owners of popular Wichita restaurant Malaysia Café have signed a lease to open a new Asian fusion concept, Journey East Asia Grill, in the Braeburn Square retail complex at Wichita State University.
Journey East will open in a 2,840-square-foot space on the south end of the south building in Braeburn Square, next to Meritrust Credit Union.
Wichita State alumnus Fitzgerald Tsen, who is opening the restaurant alongside Celine Koh, says he anticipates opening sometime this fall.
The idea for the restaurant has long been in the making. Tsen says they have toyed for years with the idea of fusing together popular dishes from various Asian countries, adding their own special twist to the recipes but keeping true to authentic ingredients and cooking styles.
“We want to get people to start trying different flavors together,” he says. “This venue came at just the right time, and it’s the moment for us to make something different. We want to make a mark on the Innovation Campus.”
The restaurant will be open for lunch and dinner and will include casual sit-down space and quicker take-out options for students and other patrons on the go.
There will likely be beer and alcohol served, and Tsen hopes to someday offer on-campus delivery.
Journey East will be the second restaurant in Braeburn Square. A Fuzzy’s Taco Shop is set to open in August. Other tenants in the retail center include Starbucks, the Shocker Store and Meritrust.
