Wichita State to belatedly celebrate spring/summer commencement

Students who graduated from Wichita State University during spring and summer 2020 will finally get their chance to walk across the stage to be recognized in a formal commencement ceremony at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 at Charles Koch Arena.

More than 600 students are expected to attend commencement, which was originally postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Many safety measures are being put in place, including required masks, limited attendees and distanced seating for graduates and guests.

Although a virtual ceremony was held in May, it’s always been a priority to provide a safe way for students to be celebrated for their achievements, said Kimberly Moore, director of Workforce, Professional and Community Education at the university.

“This day has been a long time coming, and these graduates have worked hard and sacrificed much to earn their degrees during a worldwide pandemic,” Moore says. “When we postponed our spring ceremony due to COVID, there were many disappointed graduates and families. We look forward to greeting our graduates and their families on Saturday.”

Media are welcome to attend with a press pass. Guests without tickets will not be admitted, as there is assigned seating. There are no tickets remaining.
