“We’re excited to partner with the Barton School in creating its alumni council,” said Courtney Marshall, president and CEO of WSU Alumni Association. “There’s a lot of pride in the program you graduate from at WSU. We hope this opportunity creates a deeper connection for our alumni to the Barton School.”
The council will make recommendations to the dean on the school’s strategic direction, curriculum, student experience, business partnerships and global outreach. The council members will also serve as guest speakers and mentors, host alumni events and engage in community service initiatives.
“We have so many dynamic and brilliant alumni,” said Dr. Larisa Genin, dean of the Barton School of Business. “This council gives us the opportunity to engage with these individuals and gives them the opportunity to shape the future of their college.”
As a dedicated team of ambassadors, the Alumni Council is just the start of a robust alumni engagement initiative for the Barton School. The college hopes these efforts create alumni satellite locations across the globe committed to helping build its reputation as one of the most premier and innovative business schools in the world.
“WSU and the Barton School has some of the most prominent and successful alumni in Wichita and beyond,” said Dr. Rick Muma, president of Wichita State. “Opportunities like this council are the perfect way to utilize the passion and expertise they began developing here to propel the university and themselves forward.”
“This council is not only going to elevate its members, but also the Barton School, the university and the community,” said Dr. Shirley Lefever, interim executive vice president and provost at Wichita State. “Their investment in the council will help the Barton School continue to grow into one of the premier business schools in the country.”
