YouTube star ‘MatPat’ to speak at Wichita State

Matthew “MatPat” Patrick, a YouTube creator and entrepreneur known for the popular “Game Theory” series, will speak at Wichita State University at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 16 in Lowe Auditorium at the Eugene M. Hughes Metropolitan Complex. Doors open at 6:15 p.m.

Tickets prices are $10 for WSU students, $18 for WSU staff and faculty, and $25 for the general public. Tickets are available at https://wichita.edu/sac.

This event is intended for ages 13 and older.

During the event, Patrick will present a talk about his career as a content creator, gaming theorist and entrepreneur. The talk will be followed by a moderated question-and-answer session.

Patrick, aka MatPat, is the founder and former host of the “Theory” Channels on YouTube, one of digital video’s best-known and most successful brands. With more than 45 million subscribers and 9 billion total views, MatPat’s channels are best described as modern-day “Mythbusters,” educating viewers on science, math and critical thought through the lens of pop culture. His creative work also spans larger-scale productions like producing the YouTube Premium series Game Lab, as well as Creators in Fashion, the first-ever live fashion week for creator-founded apparel brands.

He hosted the reality competition show “The Runner” (executive producers Matt Damon and Ben Affleck), voiced Computron in the animated series “Transformers: Titans Return” and made a surprise cameo appearance in Blumhouse's “Five Nights at Freddy’s” movie. He also helped co-produce the Tony-nominated Broadway play “Grey House” as well as the West End musical “Your Lie in April.”

MatPat is a respected digital strategist who, over the past decade, has deeply shaped the online discourse around the creator economy and online creator culture. After selling his business in 2022, Matt successfully transitioned his YouTube channels to a new series of hosts in 2024, pioneering a playbook for longevity of creator-led brands in the digital ecosystem. He’s also presented everywhere from Capitol Hill to the United Nations, engaging in creative collaborations with prominent world leaders. But of all his work, he’s most proud of having used his platform to raise over $7 million for various charitable organizations.

“An Evening with MatPat” is coordinated by WSU’s Student Activities Council (SAC) in collaboration with Shocker Studios. SAC is a student-led group charged with shaping campus culture through hosting unique experiences and memorable events. Student leaders gain transferable skills that prepare them for their future career pursuits.
