From the Office of Research Administration

The Department of Homeland Security has issued a time-sensitive and serious initiative titled the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS).

All facilities, including institutions of higher learning, possessing certain "Chemicals of Interest" (COIs) -- those deemed to pose a security risk for release, theft or sabotage -- must report detailed information about any of the 325 COIs in their facility. WSU is required to submit a chemical inventory to DHS as specified by the CFATS regulation.

The Office of Environmental Health and Safety is spearheading WSU's reporting effort and has developed a list of all 325 chemicals. EHS will use campus mail to contact all chemical users and provide them with the list and instructions.

Each chemical user should forward their completed inventory to EHS, campus box 63, by Feb. 15.
