* A retirement reception for Celia Goering, director of satellite campuses, will be held from 4-6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 20, with remarks at 4:30 p.m. in the RSC ballroom. All members of the WSU community are invited to attend.

* Ward Jewell is on a Kansas Energy Commission committee that is evaluating energy research needs in Kansas. He is seeking input on what energy research is going on at WSU now, and the areas of research for which additional funding would be beneficial for the state. * At 9:50 a.m. today (Monday, Aug. 18) KMUW FM89 will air Frank Dudgeon's interview with Sharon Iorio, dean of the College of Education at WSU, about the teacher shortage and Teacher Education Assistance for College and Higher Education grants. The interview will also be posted at www.kmuw.org.

* In honor of Teacher Appreciation Day, Abuelo's "taste of Mexico" restaurant at 1413 Waterfront Pkwy. is hosting a Teacher Appreciation Night from 4 p.m.-close today (Monday, Aug. 18). The first 150 teachers will receive an exclusive Back-to-School Survival Kit. The event is sponsored in part by WSU.
