Mildred Edwards, a member of the Kansas Board of Regents and chairwoman of Wichita State’s Alumni Board of Directors, has been selected to be a National TRIO Achiever. 

The award is given by the Council for Opportunity in Education. COE is TRIO’s national organization. TRIO makes a difference in the lives of individuals who aspire to go to college, putting in the time and effort to ensure students have the resources needed for success.

Edwards will be honored along with five others on Tuesday, Sept. 10, during TRIO’s national meeting in Chicago.

Edwards was the program specialist for Wichita State University Associate Vice President Deltha Q. Colvin and participated in the Student Support Services program under Deema DeSilva.
Recipients of the TRIO Achiever award must be a former TRIO project participant who was enrolled in and successfully completed a TRIO program.

The TRIO Achiever candidate must have enrolled in and successfully completed a postsecondary program of study resulting in a baccalaureate or terminal degree from an accredited institution of higher education.

The candidate must be a person of high stature within his/her profession or has received recognition for outstanding achievement. The candidate also must have made significant civic, community or professional contributions.
