WSU’s Service Week is an effort to recognize National Student Day and participate in Make A Difference Day with service projects and community partnerships.
There will be multiple opportunities to support both local and international causes.
Stop Hunger Now: 1-4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 1, Rhatigan Student Center, north patio
Stop by and help prepare 10,000 meals for school children across Asia, Africa and Central and South America to help combat hunger. This event is also part of Hunger Awareness Month and is sponsored by the Interfraternity Council, Woman’s Panhellenic Association and Multicultural Greek Council.
Community Engagement Fair: 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 2, Rhatigan Student Center, north patio
The fair is an opportunity for community groups and organizations to highlight the work and efforts that are done in the greater Wichita community. Students can learn about volunteer and service options, and student organizations will highlight the work currently being done.
National Student Day: 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 3, Rhatigan Student Center
National Student Day is a day that college stores across North America have created to recognize and encourage volunteerism and social responsibility among the college students they serve. National Student Day at WSU is celebrated through a variety of celebrations in the RSC University Bookstore, ranging from free food and merchandise, sales, contests and live music. WSU students have the opportunity to win prizes for sharing how they volunteer. The three most popular stories of student volunteerism will win scholarships of $3,000, $2,000, and $1,000; 12 additional stories will be selected at random to win iPad minis.
Make a Difference Day: noon-5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, and Saturday, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, multiple locations in Wichita

Join us for Shocker Helping Hands as we recognize National Student Day with service projects and community partnerships. The goal this year is to complete 2,500 hours of service in two days. The service projects include Habitat for Humanity Build and Restore, the Kansas Humane Society’s “Woofstock” and the Fairmount Back to the Park festival.
Big Pink Volleyball: 1-5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5, Heskett Center
Big Pink Volleyball is a philanthropic event to raise funds for breast cancer charities. The event is presented by the Student Wellness Action Team. Last year the team raised $875 for Susan G. Komen, and this year the proceeds will be split between Victory in the Valley and Early Detection Works. Teams play in a double-elimination volleyball tournament with a four-foot wide, hot pink volleyball.
