Shocker men a No. 1 seed; women to play Penn State

The Wichita State men’s basketball team was named the No. 1 seed in the Midwest Regional of the 2014 NCAA Tournament.

March Madness will get under way for the Shockers at 6:10 p.m. Friday, March 21, in St. Louis, where a little more than a week ago the team won the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.

At 34-0, Wichita State is the only undefeated NCAA basketball team in the nation and is considered one of the favorites to win the NCAA title, something that has never been done by the Shockers.

Women's team headed to Pennsylvania

Also headed to the NCAA Tournament is the women's team, who won the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament for the second year in a row. The Shocker women (26-6) will play No. 3 seed Penn State at 11:30 a.m., Sunday, March 23, in University Park, Pa.

At the MVC Tournament in St. Charles, Mo., the Shockers won the championship with a 24-point drubbing of Drake University. It was the second-highest winning spread for a championship game in MVC history.
