WSU's Chamber Orchestra tours the Pacific Northwest

The following is an excerpt from the Wichita State University Alumni Association’s May 2014 newsletter, The Shocker Online.

The 60-member Wichita State University Chamber Orchestra on Monday embarked on a concert tour of the Pacific Northwest. The orchestra is performing music by Dvorak, Puccini, Bloch and Marquez under the direction of WSU associate professor of music Mark Laycock.

Jonathan Newman’s Blow It Up, Start Again will open the program, and will be followed by Giacomo Puccini’s Intermezzo from Act III of Manon Lescaut, and Danzon No. 2 by contemporary Mexican composer Arturo Marquez. Featured musicians will include Elaine Whitmire, a graduate student majoring in cello performance, who will perform the first movement of Dvorak’s Cello Concerto in B Minor. Additionally, WSU faculty artist David Hunsicker, trumpet, will perform two selections by contemporary American composers.
