Wichita State Summer Choir performance has a little faith

The Wichita State University Summer Choir presents “Have a Little Faith” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 26, in Miller Concert Hall, Duerksen Fine Arts Center.

The musical theme this year is about looking for faith in country, relationships and God. The Summer Choir will be joined by special guest SmorgasChorus, an award-winning barbershop chorus that offers traditional tunes and modern arrangements of songs by the Beach Boys.

The summer concert, directed by WSU music professor Tom Wine, will include familiar melodies such as “America the Beautiful,” “Great is Thy Faithfulness” and “For the Beauty of the Earth,” as well as a melody by Gustav Holst. The performances will be interspersed with music based on the poetry of e.e. cummings, a composition by WSU faculty member Dean Roush and a rousing Gospel selection.

This year’s choir boasts more than 100 singers from local high schools, representatives from 12 Wichita State departments, area teachers and a community of people who love to sing. It is an open choir with no auditions, and encourages anyone who wants to sing to add their voice – the concert is a culmination of an intense rehearsal process.

Tickets for the event are on sale now at the Fine Arts Box Office noon-5 p.m. weekdays in the lobby of Duerksen Fine Arts Center. Contact the box office at 316-978-3233. Tickets may also be purchased online at wichita.edu/fineartsboxoffice.

General admission is $7 or $3 for students – fine arts events are always free for WSU students with ID. Go to http://bit.ly/1pQQm1p for more information about the choir.
