WSU reaches agreement on 21st Street and Oliver parking lot

Wichita State University has completed an agreement with Extra Space Management Inc. to lease a parking lot at 21st Street and Oliver. The 240-space lot is located south of the Extra Space Storage facility, about 0.5 miles from the main campus. It will serve as the university’s primary park-and-ride lot with quick WSU Shuttle System service to the main campus.

The contract, brokered by Marlin Penner of John T. Arnold Associates, runs from Aug. 11, 2014 through Aug. 31, 2016, and the lot will be utilized by WSU for the fall and spring semesters during that time period.

The leased lot will be one of two free park-and-ride options available for WSU students, staff and visitors when a new permit parking system goes into effect on Aug. 11. At that time, permits will be required to park on the main campus from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. on weekdays when classes are in sessions. No permit will be required to park in the new park-and-ride lot or in the existing park-and-ride lot at the Hughes Metropolitan Complex at 29th Street and Oliver.

WSU Shuttle System service to the new lot and regular WSU Police Department security patrols will also begin on Aug. 11. The shuttle system, now in its second year, features two shuttle routes and 13 stops on the WSU main campus and at satellite facilities.
