WSU plants 50 trees to commemorate 50 years as a Board of Regents institution

In honor of the 50th anniversary of Wichita State's inclusion in the Kansas Board of Regents, Wichita State University is planting 50 new trees on its main campus near the newly completed Shocker Hall and Rhatigan Student Center facilities.

In a brief ceremony held Tuesday, Sept. 2, WSU President John Bardo, Vice President for Administration and Finance Mary Herrin and Provost and Senior Vice President Anthony Vizzini helped plant the first of these trees, a Lace Bark Elm that will help shade Yale Walk just east of Shocker Hall.

The nine-member Kansas Board of Regents, founded in 1925, is the governing board of the state’s six universities and the statewide coordinating board for the state’s 32 public higher education institutions (six state universities, one municipal university, 19 community colleges and six technical colleges). In addition, the board administers the state’s student financial aid, adult education, high school equivalency and career and technical education programs.
