Award-winning authors headline Wichita State series

In its biggest series yet, Wichita State University's Creative Writing Program is bringing six of the nation's best fiction and poetry writers to campus for the 2014-15 "Writing Now, Reading Now" series.

The series is free and open to the public.

The first event in the series is a reading by Cary Holladay at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18, at WSU’s Ulrich Museum of Art.

Holladay has written many works of fiction, including “Merry-Go-Sorry,” which was selected for an O. Henry Prize by Stephen King.

Other authors in this series include:

  • Paul Harding, winner of the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for his novel “Tinkers” – 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, in the Ulrich Museum.
  • Sam Taylor, author of “Body of the World” and “Nude Descending an Empire” – 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 13, in the Ulrich Museum.
  • Mary Ruefle, a WSU distinguished poet and author of 11 collections of poetry – 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12, in the Ulrich Museum.
  • Elizabeth Gaffney, author of “Metropolis” and “When the World Was Young” – 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, in the Ulrich Museum.
  • David Wojahn, a recipient of fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation, 5:30 p.m. Thursday, April 1, in the Ulrich Museum.
  • Wichita State Master of Fine Arts graduates – 2-2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 26, in Ablah Library.
