WSU again named a 'Top Military-Friendly College'

Wichita State has again been named a top military-friendly university in Military Advanced Education magazine’s “2015 Guide to Military-Friendly Colleges & Universities.”

The guide evaluates institutions based on key categories of consideration to service members, veterans, their spouses and dependents, including: military culture, financial assistance, flexibility, general support, online support and on-campus support. Wichita State received high scores in the survey for its flexibilty and strong military culture.

“We are very proud to be recognized for our efforts in serving military and veteran students, and will continue to work toward providing an environment that supports the success of our students who have served their country,” said Sarah Sell, director of Veteran Student Services at Wichita State.

WSU, which first received the military-friendly designation in 2011, has continued to increase efforts to support military students, veterans and their families, including:

  • The establishment, in 2013, of a Military and Veteran Student Center.
  • Participation in Department of Veterans Affairs’ Yellow Ribbon Program, which provides additional financial assistance for eligible out-of-state students from military families.
  • The launch, in 2014, of the Veterans Preference in the Application Process initiative, which seeks to attract more employees who are veterans of military.
