Transgender advocate Laverne Cox to speak at Wichita State

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion is bringing keynote speaker Laverne Cox to Wichita State University to celebrate GAYpril. "Ain't I a Woman? My Journey to Womanhood" will take place from 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 29, at the Eugene M. Hughes Metropolitan Complex.

An outspoken transgender advocate, Cox will deliver an empowering message about moving beyond gender expectations to live more authentically. She is the first transgendered woman to produce and star in her own TV show, “TRANSForm Me,” which aired on VH1. She is also the first trans-woman of color to have a leading role on a mainstream television show with her portrayal of Sophia Burset on the Netflix series, “Orange is the New Black.”

This event is open to the public. Tickets are available for $10 at the WSU Bookstore, Dillons or through Select-a-Seat at goo.gl/WRIQwV. For more information visit wichita.edu/Lavernecox, or call the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at 316-978-3034.
