He will report to President John Bardo to provide legal representation and advice to the university. He is succeeding Ted Ayres, who is retiring at the end of June.

“We were looking for a generalist who would be knowledgeable on a wide variety of legal issues,” said Bardo. “David’s professional experience, combined with his commitment to public service and decade of teaching, make him an excellent choice.”

Moses has practiced law for 36 years, most recently as managing member of the Wichita law firm Moses & Pate LLC. He has taught a WSU course, Legal Issues in Sports Administration, for the past 10 years.

Moses says he sees the WSU general counsel position as an opportunity to return to his roots in public service.

“I began my career, in Wichita, as an assistant district attorney and would like to complete the cycle of professional life by again serving the public as general counsel to Wichita State,” said Moses. “Exciting things are happening every day at Wichita State, and I could not turn down the opportunity to be a part of this great institution and help President Bardo and his team make the Innovation University a reality.”

Moses has been active in local and state activities, including: Wichita Police and Fire Retirement Board, Washburn University Board of Regents, Washburn University Foundation, Kansas Bar Foundation, Kansas Commission for Peace Officer Standards and Training (chairman), commissioner on the Kansas Racing and Gaming Commission and member on the Kansas Continuing Legal Education Commission.

Moses grew up in Wichita. After graduating from Wichita High School East, he earned his Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1976 and his Juris Doctor degree in 1979 from Washburn University. He is married to Terri Moses, executive director of safety services for USD 259.
