Wichita State names new director of the Media Resources Center

John Jones will be the new director of the Media Resources Center (MRC) at Wichita State University effective June 8. Jones has been the manager of Instructional Design and Technology in the MRC since 2014.

He replaces Tonya Witherspoon, who is now executive director of WSU’s Ennovar, a new institute of emerging technology and market solutions.

Jones has a master’s degree in literature and creative writing from Kansas State University and a master’s of fine arts degree in creative writing from Wichita State. His work expertise involves online training, academic technology and Web development, both in higher education and industry.

The MRC provides an array of media technology services for the university and community, arranged in three departments: WSU TV, campus media services and instructional design and technology.

Richard Muma, WSU associate vice president for academic affairs, said Jones’ experience and collaborative approach to solving problems makes him the ideal person to be the next director of the MRC.

“He will work with WSU’s departments, colleges and community partners to facilitate, leverage and expand ongoing media technology services,” Muma said.

“I look forward to the opportunity to expand on the excellent work we are already doing in the Media Resources Center,” said Jones. “We have a great team and strong relationships across campus; moving forward, we will build on those successes as we support the university community and mission.”

The MRC is administratively located in the Division of Academic Affairs and reports to Muma.
