National nursing award goes to WSU instructor

Nominated by two of her students, Beamer was selected from more than 250 nominees across the United States.

“The most important concept Patty Beamer taught me about becoming a professional nurse is to be curious – ask questions, investigate,” says Karin Carlson, one of the students who nominated Beamer for the award.

Winners of the award are educators who excel at integrating professional and interpersonal skills into their nursing practice and the education of students. These skills include teaching nursing students how to be a patient advocate, convey professional behaviors and attitudes, stay healthy, manage work-related stress, use nursing informatics and technology, and function as a leader of the health care team.

The award was established in 2012 by ATI Nursing Education, a provider of online learning programs for improving faculty effectiveness.

Beamer will attend the 2016 ATI National Nurse Educator Summit in Nashville, Tennessee, a four-day professional development conference. As a nurse educator, Beamer will have access to the Nurse’s Touch product for one class for a year, free of charge.

Nurse’s Touch addresses professional and interpersonal skills content, benefitting the winners and their students with interactive simulators, tutorials, case studies and practice assessments. It covers areas of professional communication, wellness, self-care, nursing informatics and leadership.

ATI Nursing Education is the leading provider of online learning programs that are instrumental in improving faculty effectiveness and student and program outcomes in nursing schools across the country.
