KMUW hosts Democracy on Tap event for February

KMUW-89.1, Wichita State University's public radio station, has received a $65,390 grant from The Knight Foundation fund of the Wichita Community Foundation to continue support for its Engage ICT: Democracy on Tap program.

Engage ICT is a long-term project designed to build an informed and engaged citizenry in Wichita.

For February, the topic for discussion is education. The event is 5:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 9, at The Monarch, 579 W. Douglas.

Everyone is welcome to ask questions or just enjoy the discussion. Snacks will be provided courtesy of The Monarch.

Panelists include:

  • John Allison, superintendent of USD 259
  • Jim Freeman, chief financial officer of USD 259
  • Dave Kirkbride, executive director of the South Central Kansas National Education Association
  • Sheelu Surender, director of the Office of Financial Aid at WSU

Participants will find out why they should care about the issues in our city, state and nation; why they should get registered; and why they should vote. These monthly gatherings will be held at familiar venues on the second Tuesday of each month and will feature authoritative speakers and conversations on issues that touch people’s daily lives.
