Honors College awards $300,000 in new Koch Scholarships

The Dorothy and Bill Cohen Honors College at Wichita State University has announced its second class of Koch Scholars.

These nine students were selected from approximately 100 applicants. Each will be awarded between $30,000 and $50,000 over the course of four years, in addition to general merit scholarships they have earned to assist with in-state or out-of-state cost of attendance.

The Koch Scholarship is made possible by a pledge from Koch Industries and the Fred and Mary Koch Foundation. Of the $11.25 million pledged to WSU, $1.54 million was dedicated by Koch Industries to competitive awards for Cohen Honors College freshmen who will be high achieving students in majors within the College of Engineering or the W. Frank Barton School of Business.

“Congratulations to the 2016 Koch Scholarship recipients,” said Meredith Olson, vice president, public affairs, Koch Industries. “We are pleased to help these exceptional students have the opportunity to pursue their academic and career goals.”

Koch Scholars agree to live on campus their first year, remain active in Honors and pursue a major in business or engineering.

Selection for these scholarships was competitive based on high school GPAs and test scores, work, volunteer and leadership experiences, an essay and an interview. Koch Scholars will visit Koch Industries accompanied by the inaugural 2015 class on March 11.
