Tim HartWichita State University's College of Engineering has awarded 10 high school seniors nearly $300,000 in Wallace Scholarships.
The winners, announced Friday, Feb. 19, will receive $28,000 each to attend Wichita State for four years.
In addition to the scholarship, the recipients will become part of the Wallace Scholars, a community of engineering students, composed of more than 40 members from every class and major within the College of Engineering. Wallace Scholars are involved on the WSU campus and within the Wichita community to promote engineering, math, science and community service.
Selection for the Wallace Scholarship is based on recipients’ high school GPA, ACT score and performance at the annual Wallace Invitational for Scholarships in Engineering, which was held in December.
Winners of the 2016 Wallace Scholarships are:

- Leah Fisher, Washburn Rural High School, Topeka, Kansas
- Sidney Hose, Blue Springs High School, Blue Springs, Missouri
- Jordan Kerr, Park Christian High School, Moorehead, Minnesota
- Jacob Kimble, El Dorado High School, Kansas
- William Mohr, Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School, Kansas
- Danny Nguyen, Wichita East High School, Kansas
- Benjamin Ottaviano, Ambassadors for Christ Academy, Bentonville, Arkansas
- Ryan Stang, Derby High School, Kansas
- Jimmy Vu, Wichita Northeast Magnet High School, Kansas
The Wallace Scholarship is made possible through the Dwane and Velma Wallace Endowment, created in 1976, which supports scholarships for engineering students and provides funds for the College of Engineering. Since 1980, the endowment has benefited more than 300 engineering majors at WSU.
