Abundant scholarship opportunities to be had at Wichita State

Some of the biggest scholarships at Wichita State University are being awarded this spring -- and there are still plenty of opportunities for those who want to become part of Shocker Nation.

  • Following November’s Distinguished Scholarship Invitational, the $60,000 Harry Gore Memorial Scholarships were awarded in January. High school seniors Sandra Carlo and Brayden Hosman were the big winners. The Gore scholarships annually recognizes leadership and academic skills and are among the largest undergraduate scholarships in Kansas.
  • The $48,000 Clay Barton Scholarship was awarded this semester to Andover High School senior Caelan Dean. It’s considered one of the largest business scholarships in Kansas.
  • Also this semester were the Doris and Ralph Klose Endowed Scholarships. Each year the Klose scholarship offers a competition to high school seniors who declare a major in math or science education at Wichita State. Seven students each were awarded $29,000 this year.

The most recent competition-based scholarships awarded at Wichita State were the Koch and Wallace scholarships.

  • Nine high school seniors – chosen from about 100 applicants – won between $30,000 and $50,000 each from Koch Industries.
  • The College of Engineering awarded 10 high school seniors $28,000 each from the Wallace Scholarships, which seek to benefit engineering majors at WSU.

Soon to be announced are the winners of the annual Jabara, McGregor and Linwood Sexton scholarships, which combine for more than $265,000 worth of student support.
