NIAR's focus on advanced manufacturing earns 'best in class' nod

  • WSU's National Institute for Aviation Research has been named "best in class" for its focus on advanced manufacturing.
  • Advanced manufacturing requires higher-skilled, higher-paid workers than traditional manufacturing.

The National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) at Wichita State is a shining example of a university's support of advanced manufacturing.

A recent article in Area Development magazine identified NIAR as a program that demonstrates "best in class" practices when it comes to promoting an innovative advanced manufacturing culture.

Advanced manufacturing is the use of innovative technology to improve products and processes, requiring higher-skilled, higher-paid workers than traditional manufacturing.

One way Wichita State, through NIAR is leading the way on advanced manufacturing is through its partnership with Dassault Systémes.

The 3DExperience Center, a partnership with Dassault, will establish advanced manufacturing technology in the new Experiential Engineering Building on WSU's Innovation Campus.

The center will focus on enabling advanced product development and manufacturing, next-generation manufacturing materials and technology using the 3DExperience platform, a Multi-Robotic Advanced Manufacturing system and simulation validation using an immersive CAVE system.
