WSU to help engage community alongside Real Men, Real Heroes

Real Men, Real Heroes, a local youth-mentoring nonprofit, will engage families in the Wichita area with a community day and benefit concert on Saturday, June 25.

Sponsored by Wichita State University’s Office of Diversity and Inclusion, the Office of Community Engagement and Opportunity and the city of Wichita, the community day will help raise awareness for the program that provides role models to Wichita youth.

“Real Men, Real Heroes is the ideal organization to partner with since their mission is to empower youth to build stronger communities,” said Alicia Sanchez, director of Diversity and Inclusion. “Our hope is to engage current WSU students with the Real Men, Real Heroes mentees and ultimately create a pipeline of future Shockers.”

The community day will be held from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Fairmount Park (1647 N. Yale Blvd.). The free event will have activities, music, food and giveaways, with community and campus resources available to those in attendance.

The benefit concert, featuring comedian Ron G. and The Dazz Band with Jerry Bell, begins at 7 p.m. at the Hughes Metropolitan Complex. Tickets for the concert can be purchased through selectaseat.com, with prices ranging from $35-$65.

Funds raised from the concert will be used by Real Men, Real Heroes to purchase a new bus, allowing the organization to transport mentees to events around Wichita.
