Welcomefest's two weeks of interactive student activities kick off fall semester

New and returning Wichita State students will start the school year off with a variety of fun on-campus events during WSU’s annual Welcomefest, Aug. 20-Sept. 3.

Welcomefest’s wide-ranging slate of events include parties, carnivals, college-versus-college competitions, free food, movies, inflatables and games.

The events are designed to provide student involvement opportunities and help students make connections before the semester gets into full swing.

Main events include:

Back to School Bash, 6:30-9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20, RSC Courtyard. Includes inflatables, food, live music, carnival games and prizes. Hosted by Student Involvement. 

Beach Party, 7-10 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, RSC East Patio. WSU’s Student Activities Council hosts its annual Beach Party with a slip-n-slide and various water competitions.

Wu-Rah, 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 26, Charles Koch Arena. Wu-Rah begins a new tradition with performances and interactive activities to learn more about WSU. The style event will include the chance for one lucky student to step up to the free throw, 3-point and half-court lines and take a shot at winning $250, $500 and a reserved parking spot. All attendees will get free food and a T-shirt. 

Clash of the Colleges, 4-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, Cessna Stadium. Competition is fierce between academic colleges at this annual event. It includes inflatables, relay races, water balloons and team sports in a competitive environment.

Walk a Mile, 5:30-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, RSC East Courtyard. Men walk a mile on campus in high heels while attendees learn about issues related to rape, sexual assault and gender violence.

Glow Paint Party, 9 p.m.-midnight, RSC East Courtyard. Once it gets dark, the glow party – complete with glow sticks, glow-in-the-dark paint and a live DJ – gets started.
