WSU announces spring commencement schedule, speakers

Almost 2,325 students are eligible to participate in the 112th spring commencement ceremonies Friday and Saturday, May 14-15, at Wichita State University. Ceremonies will be held in Charles Koch Arena.

Undergraduate and graduate degrees will be conferred in individual college ceremonies.

Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences
About 870 liberal arts and sciences students are eligible to participate in commencement exercises at 3 p.m. Friday, May 14. Christine Downey-Schmidt will represent the Kansas Board of Regents. The commencement speaker will be Kathy Sexton, city manager of Derby, Kan.

College of Health Professions
About 300 health professions students are eligible to participate in commencement at 7 p.m. Friday, May 14. Christine Downey-Schmidt will represent the Kansas Board of Regents. The commencement speaker will be Ed O’Malley, president and CEO of the Kansas Leadership Center and member of the College of Health Professions Dean’s Advisory Committee.

W. Frank Barton School of Business
About 415 business students are expected to complete their degrees this spring or summer. The commencement ceremony will be held at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 15. Jarold (Jerry) Boettcher will represent the Kansas Board of Regents. The commencement speaker will be Craig Barton, president of WFB Inc., a real estate development company.

College of Education
Almost 345 education students are eligible to graduate in a ceremony at
11 a.m. Saturday, May 15. Jarold (Jerry) Boettcher will represent the Kansas Board of Regents. The speaker will be Barry Downing, an entrepreneur who has built a group of businesses employing more than 2,200 employees and generating annual sales of more than $1 billion.

College of Engineering
About 270 engineering students are eligible to graduate in a ceremony at
2 p.m. Saturday, May 15. Jarold (Jerry) Boettcher will represent the Kansas Board of Regents. The commencement speaker will be Lynn Bertuglia, managing director of the Enterprise Management Services Division of Black & Veatch Corporation.

College of Fine Arts
Approximately 115 fine arts students are eligible to graduate in this ceremony at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 15. Jarold (Jerry) Boettcher will represent the Kansas Board of Regents. The speaker will be Chris Brunner, an active sculptor that has produced work for ABC-TV’s “Extreme Home Makeover,” and served as art consulate for the Wichita River Corridor Project and City Arts.
