Rachel Davis, a senior at Wichita Northwest High School, was recently named the 2010 Davis-Moore Scholarship recipient. Davis will receive $3,000 a year for four years, for a total of $12,000, to attend Wichita State University.

Davis was chosen as the scholarship recipient for her commitment to education and for being an active student and community member. Not only is she a good student, but Davis was active in YEK, student senate, DECA, Teen HOPE, SADD and captain of the dance team. She is from a family of die-hard Shocker fans and will be joined at WSU by her identical twin sister.

According to Karen Pickert, principal at Northwest, Davis was a well-rounded student, demonstrating leadership skills through DECA, Teen Hope, Link Crew and National Honor Society. She also was on the dance team and received honors in her advanced placement classes.

"Rachel has made many contributions to her school and the community, along with performing to excellence academically," said Pickert. "She is a very talented, hard working individual. We wish her well at Wichita State University."

Dawson Grimsley, president of Davis-Moore, said Davis-Moore is pleased to offer the scholarship.

"It makes sense," said Grimsley. "The community has been supportive of us over the years, and this is one way to pay it forward."

The winner is chosen by a scholarship committee, drawing from the general scholarship pool. The guidelines stipulate the student must be from Kansas and active in school and the community. The hope is that these students will carry on the commitment to the community and its youth as they become future leaders and successful adults.

"In these challenging economic times, it is wonderful to see the generosity of our business community promote the future of our young scholars and prepare them to be our leaders in the future," said Wade Robinson, vice president for Campus Life and University Relations.
