Shakespeare's 'Twelfth Night' takes to Wilner stage in September

Wichita State University’s School of Performing Arts will go classic theater when it presents William Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Sept. 23-25, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26 in Wilner Auditorium on the WSU Campus.

One of Shakespeare’s best-loved comedies, “Twelfth Night” will delight the audience with a tale of mistaken identity and the follies of love.

When Viola is shipwrecked on Illyria, she disguises herself as a boy to serve Duke Orsino and promptly falls in love with him. Complications and chaos ensue. Will true love rule the day?

The show will be directed by Bret Jones, program director of theater at Wichita State and a devotee of exposing students to Shakepeare’s classic works.

WSU students are designing the set (Brandon Cheney) and lights (Tyler Lessin) and WSU faculty member Betty Monroe is designing the costumes.

Brady Flock is the stage manager and Danette Baker is the fight director.

The cast includes Rachel Wullenweber as Viola, Ashley Lauren as Olivia, Staci Martin as Maria, Curtis Proctor as Toby, Sean Gestl as Andrew, Michael Webber as Feste, Michael Gordon as Sebastian, Damian Padilla as Antonio, Andrew Fayette as Malvolio, Matt Elliott as Orsino, Ian Sutton as Curio, and Scott Thomas, Aaron Craven and Audrey Kisner.

There will be a talk-back session for interested patrons and students following the opening night performance. For more information, contact performingarts@wichita.edu.
