College of Fine Arts has an October full of events at WSU

In College of Fine Arts news for October, the Wichita State University Symphony Orchestra will perform an Oct. 7 concert featuring the world-class St. Petersburg String Quartet, quartet-in-residence, in its first year with WSU’s School of Music.

That stellar performance will be followed on Oct. 9 by the Connoisseur Series event featuring Heinavanker, an Estonian vocal ensemble known for beautiful renditions of their country’s folk hymns and for early polyphonic music.

Continuing in an international vein, Italy’s brilliant Massimo Nosetti will perform an Oct. 19 concert on the Marcussen organ for the Rie Bloomfield Organ Series.

The rest of the month will showcase Wichita State’s A Cappella Choir, Second Stage Theatre’s “The Chairs,” mezzo soprano Deborah Baxter’s Faculty Recital, Concert Band with jazz combos, the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, opera’s comic “Albert Herring,” WSU’s Madrigal and Chamber singers with Women’s Ensemble and more.
