Shocker debate team sees early success in fall 2010 season

The Wichita State University debate team is off to a good start this fall and is looking for continued success as the fall season progresses.

The team just returned from Northwestern University, where 144 teams entered the tournament.

WSU’s team of Matt Munday and Tom Garvey earned a winning record (5-3). They barely missed advancing to single-elimination debates, but their record ties the best by a WSU team at the tournament in 15 years.

The team of Brian Box and Creighton Coleman were 4-4.

Next up for the debate team is a tournament Saturday through Monday, Oct. 16-18, at Emporia State University. WSU is sending five teams and looking to defend its championship from last year, when Box and Eric Robinson won the Open division.
