Homecoming features debut of new one-mile run

A unique event, the "Shocking Nearly Naked Run," makes its debut at Wichita State University as part of Shockin’ Y’All, WSU’s homecoming celebration slated for Saturday, Nov. 6 through Saturday, Nov. 13.

The run starts at 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the parking lot west of Eck Stadium on the WSU campus.

Check-in begins at 9 p.m.

There is no cost to enter, but each participant is requested to contribute at least one item of gently used winter clothing, which will be donated to Goodwill Industries Inc.

Each participant will receive a free T-shirt.

In the spirit of collegiate competition, WSU is challenging the University of Northern Iowa to see which university can collect the most clothing. The two runs will be skyped from university to university.

Participants are welcome to run, walk or roll the one-mile course.

Runners can choose to run in whatever appropriate attire they would like -- from overcoats to regular running garb to their skivvies.

“The run provides an opportunity for students, alumni and university faculty and staff to give back to the Wichita community,” said Megan Ensley, director of student and young alumni relations for the WSU Alumni Association. “What a fun way to help others and show your Shocker pride.”

Homecoming at WSU is sponsored by the WSU Alumni Association. Most Shockin’ Y’All events are free and open to the public.
