Veterans Upward Bound announces new curriculum coordinator

Nichole Childers

Nichole Childers

Veterans Upward Bound at Wichita State University has hired Nichole Childers as the new curriculum coordinator for veterans who are interested in taking college classes.

Childers will work directly with veterans to ensure that they have the requisite information, skills and training prior to entering or returning to classes. Her duties include academic and career counseling as she works with 120 veterans to make sure that their transition into post-secondary education is a smooth one.

Veterans Upward Bound provides free refresher courses in math, English and science, as well as tutoring in these areas for eligible participants. Eligibility is based on being low-income, first-generation college students or, in some cases, academic need.

Childers has worked as an accountant for the Wichita public school district, USD 259; an adjunct instructor at Butler County Community College; and youth development director/field director for Girl Scouts of the Golden Plains. She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees (a master’s in organizational development) at Friends University in Wichita.

A Wichita native, Childers is married to Jarrod Childers; they have three children.
