WSU's Candlelight Concert gives voice to holidays

The holidays are all about longtime traditions and so is the WSU School of Music Candlelight Concert, in its 48th year of melding student voices with the joyous music of the season.

The 48th Annual Candlelight Concert will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, and at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, in Wiedemann Recital Hall. Tickets are $7 with discounts available.

The concert will feature the WSU A Cappella Choir, Women's Choir, Chamber Singers and Madrigal Singers. Also on the program are students from the WSU brass and percussion studios in several selections with the choirs.

Highlighting this year’s program is the “Gloria” written by John Rutter and performed with brass, percussion and the famous Marcussen organ, said Tom Wine, WSU director of choirs and professor of music education.

The concert will open with the traditional “Personent Hodie” that fills Wiedemann Hall in surround sound with voices, brass and percussion in what has become a true holiday tradition.
