$44,000 Barton Scholarship goes to Newton senior

Jessica Crumrine, a senior at Newton High School in Newton, Kan., is the winner of Wichita State University’s 2011-2012 Clay Barton Scholarship in Business.

Crumrine will receive $11,000 a year for four years to attend WSU. The $44,000 Barton Scholarship is the biggest business scholarship in the state.

Crumrine is the daughter of Doug and Sara Crumrine and Kelly and Dave Ellston. She plans to study marketing at WSU.

At Newton High School, Crumrine is involved in the National Honor Society, French National Honor Society, dance team and softball. She also sings with the church youth choir and has volunteered on many mission trips and as a Sunday school teacher.

For the past few months, Crumrine has been a marketing intern at Trinity Heights United Methodist Church and is a former intern at Dakota Discovery Museum in South Dakota.

Crumrine was one of six finalists for the Barton Scholarship. To be eligible, high school seniors must have a 3.5 GPA, a 24 on their ACT and be a declared business major.

The Barton Scholarship was established in 1991 for the son of the late Rent-A-Center Chairman Emeritus W. Frank Barton, for whom WSU’s business school is named.
