Shocker Bowling sweeps men's, women's competition in Indiana

The Wichita State University men’s and women’s bowling squads swept the Blue and Gold Classic Jan. 22-23 in South Bend, Ind.

The winners of the tournament were based on total pinfall after nine team games. This is the men’s third tournament win and the women’s fifth.

Junior Erik Gulbrandson (Superior, Wisc.) led his fellow teammates with a 222 average over the tournament’s nine team games.

For the women, sophomore Jazreel Tan (Singapore) not only led her teammates, but also topped the tournament field with a 211.4 average over nine games, earning her the Most Valuable Player title.

Also making the all-tournament team was freshman Kelsey Muther (Topeka, Kan.), who averaged 202.7 over nine games.

Both teams will travel to Indianapolis to compete in the Hoosier Classic Feb. 19-20. It’s the Shocker’s last regular season tournament.

“The Hoosier (Classic) will be a great test for us,” said Shocker head coach Gordon Vadakin. “The difficulty of the lane conditions and the number of teams makes it a special tournament in the collegiate bowling season.”
