Experience the first solo exhibition of Katherine Allys Perez

The first solo exhibition featuring the work of Katherine Allys Perez will be displayed at the Rhatigan Student Center Gallery at Wichita State University Monday, Feb. 7, through Friday, Feb. 18.

Gallery hours are 8:30 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. Admission is free.

A reception is scheduled from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, in the gallery.

The exhibition “I am not lost.” contains a series of oil paintings, each abstract mindscapes created from several tableaus of animal bones. The work creates immersive mindscapes that speak to the viewer on subjects of life cycles, emotional transitions and observation.

Perez received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in painting at the University of Kansas and is pursuing a bachelor’s in art history at Wichita State.

A native of Wichita, Perez plans to pursue a master’s program in the future. This is the artist’s third show, with the first being “Essential not Incidental” at the Pearl Gallery in Kansas City, Kan., in March 2010, as well as an inclusion in the 2010 Student Juried Exhibition at the Spencer Museum in Lawrence, Kan.

Her work can be seen on her website kallysperez.weebly.com and on www.groundsite.org.
