Wichita State, Tabor to preview songs for music educators

The WSU A Cappella Choir, Women’s Choir and special guest choir, Tabor College Concert Choir, will present “A KMEA Preview” at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, in Wiedemann Recital Hall.

Tickets are $7 for adults and $3 for students, with other discounts available.

Every year, WSU invites regional choirs to share the Wiedemann stage as those choirs prepare for a performance at the Kansas Music Educator Association (KMEA) state conference held in Wichita. This year, the Tabor College Concert Choir, under the direction of Brad Vogel, has been invited.

“The Tabor College Choir has appeared at the state conference on several occasions,” said Tom Wine, WSU voice professor. “They always present a program of musically diverse, challenging and entertaining repertoire.”

Two WSU choirs will open the program. The WSU A Cappella Choir, directed by Wine, has prepared songs ranging from Mozart to Gospel.

The WSU Women’s Choir (Las Voces Dulces), directed by WSU professor John Paul Johnson, has been invited to present a session at the state KMEA conference to demonstrate teaching musicality in the choral rehearsal.

The women will sing three songs they prepared for that session.
