WSU to present Leon Fleisher with St. Petersburg Quartet

Acclaimed pianist Leon Fleisher will perform and educate this week at Wichita State University as part of the College of Fine Arts Connoisseur Series.

The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 17, in Wiedemann Recital Hall. The second half of the program will also feature the St. Petersburg String Quartet, WSU quartet-in-residence, and WSU faculty Mark Foley.

In addition to the performance, there will be two educational activities that are open to the public at no cost:

Open Chamber Music Rehearsal from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, March 16, in Wiedemann Hall.

Piano Master Class from 10 a.m.-noon Friday, March 18, in Wiedemann Hall.

There will be copies of Fleischer’s CDs and new book for sale in the lobby at intermission and following his performance. He teaches at Peabody Conservatory in Baltimore, Md. WSU piano professor Julie Bees was one of his students at Peabody.
