WSU's KMUW exceeds pledge drive goal in record time

Wichita State University’s public radio station KMUW 89.1 FM has completed its spring 2011 pledge drive two days early, exceeding its goal of $250,000 by more than $14,000 in record time.

Other success during the campaign included the highest one-day total in the station’s history – $44,127 – and a record number of new members, totaling more than 300.

There were 1,880 listeners who contributed to the campaign.

Campus support

Many WSU employees pledged using a payroll deduction, and the university’s Media Resources Center loaned laptops to KMUW for the drive.

Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and Research Keith Pickus used a corporate challenge to urge listeners to pledge. WSU President and first lady Don and Shirley Beggs contributed to KMUW while appearing on air. And communications professor Les Anderson touted the value of public radio for the benefit of the pledge drive.

KMUW is a 24/7 news and entertainment station and is located across the street from the main Wichita State University campus.
