Observatory holding special Mother's Day program

In honor of Mother’s Day, the Lake Afton Public Observatory is celebrating Mother's Day Weekend 9-11 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 6-7.

Bring your mother or grandmother either day for “Thirty Years of Astronomy – the Moon & Planets,” and they will receive free admission.

The program lets visitors observe the moon, with its craters, ancient mountains and smooth dark plains. Then visitors can see the mysterious ringed planet, Saturn, and will look at a star that has planets of its own.

The Lake Afton Public Observatory is operated by the Fairmount Center for Science and Mathematics Education, a part of the Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Science at Wichita State University.
